By Kathie Larson

Good Will Hunting: Four buddies hang out together in South Boston, although one of them has an uncommon present: he's a prodigy. When math professor Skarsgiird gets wind of this, he demands that the youthful guy halt trashing his abilities, and sends him to a psychologist! Professor Williams tries to fracture his brittle shell. This is a well-performed fiction written by co-stars Damon and Ben Affleck that doesn't fall short with a lack of excellent characters. Jackie Chan's First Strike: Hong Kong's most visibly agile cop finds himself in a James Bond like struggle engaging the CIA, Russian mafia, an atomic weapon, and obviously, an excellent-looking girl scuba diver. The dubbing here is normally a negative, yet in a lark like this it seriously doesn't matter. The movie is basically a nonstop action film showcasing Chan's martial arts skills. Cast includes Jackie Chan. Chen Chun Wu, Jackson Lou, and Bill Tung. (110 minutes, 1996)

The Daring Dobermans: The film offers friendly family viewing as the canines are prepared for a different challenging heist by a new team of crooks. Cast includes Charles Knox Robinson, Tim Considine, David Moses, Claudio Martinez, and Joan Caulfield. (90 minutes, 1973)

The Mark of the Hawk: Abnormal story intelligently performed, set in modern-day Africa, with peaceful vs. violent means for racial equality the prime topic. Cast includes Eartha Kitt, Sidney Poitier, Juano Hernandez, and John McIntire. (83 minutes, 1957)

The Good Shepherd: Clutching tale of a spiritually censored youthful guy who is enlisted at Yale to do espionage work throughout WW2 and then to join the secret intelligence agency that would eventually become the CIA, even though it means an astronomical sacrifice to his family life. Damon is phenomenal and a well selected cast fills all the roles very well. Cast includes Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Alec Baldwin, Tammy Blanchard, Billy Crudup, Robert De Niro, and John Turturro. (167 minutes, 2006)

Mystic River: Friends since their youth Dave, Jimmy, and Sean have a secret they have kept. Dave was kidnapped and sexually assaulted for days. Now in their adult live Jimmies 19 year old daughter has been murdered. Lots of evidence points toward Dave as the killer. Is Dave the killer?

The Lawnmower Man: Jobe is retarded. He lives the simple life of mowing lawns. Dr. Lawrence Angelo wants to see if he can develop intelligence artificially. With some drugs, and a connection to virtual learning through a super computer, Jobe starts learning at an incredible rate. The question is, what are the consequences?

Delirious: An astonishingly foolish comedy with a nice premise. A beleaguered soap opera author gets a conk on the head and fantasizes that he's living in his own story in a heroic role that allows him to have his way with the lady he worships in the real word. Cast includes John Candy, Mariel Hemingway, Emma Samms, David Rasche, Charles Rocket, Raymond Burr, and Dylan Baker. (96 minutes, 1991)

Hired-To-Kill: A Mercenary poses as a gay clothes maker to spring insurgent leader 'Ferrer' from a Latin American jail. His commando squad with six attractive ladies posing as models is impressive. The History & Origins of Blues Guitar

By Zack Roberts

The blues is a kind of music that can be vocal, instrumental (blues guitar) or both. It uses the 'blue' notes which are accomplished on a 'minor pentatonic' scale most of the time, otherwise recognised as the blues scale.

Blues music was generalised from the African-American communities in the U.S. out of job songs, spiritual songs, field hollers, chants, shouts and elementary ballads that rhymed. A lot of aspects of the blues comes from African culture

The call-and-response aspect of the music came straight from African origins and there were a lot of lines that would get duplicated thrice or more. This later developed into a line repeating twice and then on the third time around there would be an 'answer line'. You will be able to still discover these aspects of early blues in modern day music, especially hip-hop.

The term 'The Blues' refers to the 'blue devils' which signifies down spirits or sorrow.

The blues guitar brings a fundamental role in blues music as well as contemporary music. It has shaped Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Bluegrass and even heavy rock genres The original blues of the early 1900's, otherwise known as "poor man's blues" was usually linked with hard times, oppressiveness from white folk, ruthlessness of the police, gambling, economic depression, floods, magic, farming and dry periods. This music was fueled by a lot of brokenheartedness and anger. Not uncommonly a lost loved one or an generic harsh environment prompted the lyrics and the tone of the blues guitar.

After the world war, you began to see blues songs that were about human relationships and sexuality. Also, wit was widened to the mix. Here is a funny example:

"That must be your woman, cause mine don't look like that... I said That must be your woman, cause mine don't look like that... Have you seen my baby? She's so big and fat..."

The blues guitar style came forth from the American South's instruments of the time which were the banjo and the Diddley Bow. This was a home-made one stringed instrument that was popular in the early 20th century. Figures such as Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House and Blind Willie McTell were a part of the delta blues style which used a lot of finger picking styles and slide guitar innovations.

Eventually, after WWII 'electric blues' became increasingly popular where the blues guitar was played on electric guitars as were the bass guitars. This was most prevalent in the Chicago area.

The history of blues guitar and poor man's blues is rich with culture and stories of good times and bad. I could go on for days about the history of the blues guitar but let's make this part 1 so you don't fall asleep on me! - 23812
