Cosplay - Fantasy Becomes Reality When Cosplay Meets Anime!

By Ben Pate

Over the past two decades anime has become increasingly popular and along with it anime conventions have begun to draw massive crowds. Born from these huge gatherings of fanatical anime fans was the hobby of creating anime costumes to imitate characters from various anime series. Derived from a combination of the English words "costume" and "play" this beloved hobby is known as "Cosplay Characters".

In the recent years, largely from 1998 and beyond the amount of public acceptance of Manga Cosplay has increased. Today cosplay is a popular scene in public settings such as parties, nightclubs and video game shows. In some parts of Japan such as the Akihabara district there are even cosplay cafes.

One of the biggest parts of the cosplay hobby is the creation of the character costume itself. The more intricate and accurate the details of the costume are the better the cosplay is considered. To this end even a person's hair, skin and physical features may become part of the overall cosplay costume. Many anime events even hold contests where cosplay costumes are judged for accuracy and creativity.

Japanese Cosplay requires a myriad of craft skills to perfect. From metal to leather to simple linens the materials needed are varied. Getting the most precise and accurate costumes requires a wide range of creative talents and skills to truly depict the unique and often elaborate costumes worn in anime.

Cosplay costume trends are always changing. On a yearly and monthly basis, depending on what anime, movies and video games are currently popular, the characters of cosplay change. In the past years even some non-anime characters have become popular cosplay choices. Harry Potter and Star Wars are common choices for non-anime character costumes.

Evolving from within the hobby of cosplay itself are some subset groups of enthusiasts who have taken cosplay in new directions. Crossplay for example is a type of cosplay where the players themselves dress up as characters of the opposite sex. However since anime tends to feature characters wearing a variety of unique and not necessarily gender-specific clothing, this is not seen as all that odd.

As it stands now, cosplay has grown so much that at their monthly and yearly conventions thousands of pictures are taken. Taken by "cameko" or "camera boy" photographers, these pictures often end up one of the hundreds of dedicated cosplay community sites online or in one of the cosplay magazines around the world. - 23812

Choosing a Cheap Television

By Harvey Underwood

Some readers of this article will remember the time when television was free. All you had to do was to buy a set, attach an antenna, either indoor or outdoor, plug it in and turn on the set. There was no cable or satellite dish. The antenna brought the magic of television to your home. In only a few short years, cable television became popular. Today subscribers can pay from 30 to 100 dollars monthly for cable. That transcribes to 360 to 1200 dollars annually for this service. Here is some great news. For the absolute cheapest TV reception, cut out the cable company.

In the days of analog television, cable television gained a following because images from antennas were often unclear. Many people do not realize that this is no longer true with digital television. In digital television, if the signal is strong enough to be received in your home, the picture will be perfect every time. If the picture cannot be shown perfectly in your home, there will be no picture. Many people find that a pair of inexpensive rabbit ears are all the antenna that is needed for their home television. If you have an older analog television, you can still qualify for a free coupon from the United States Government that will allow you 40 dollars credit toward the purchase of the converter, and the government will send you up to two of these coupons.

Free, local television broadcasts will allow you to see many of your favorite daytime or nighttime shows at no cost. Most local stations also offer local as well as national news.

If you are addicted to movies, then a less expensive option is to join an online movie rental. The fee is in proportion to the number of movies you wish to check out at one time, but begins at only 5 dollars per month. Within two days of sending one movie in, you will have another in your home. You can watch the movies at your convenience, mail the back and get the next movie in you cue.

Some of the online movie rentals offer you the ability to download older movies immediately for viewing. This is included in your monthly agreement.

If you family is watching less television, then you may find that cable is very expensive on an hourly basis.

Think of what you can do with all the money saved by cutting the cable. In a few months time you will have saved enough to buy the big screen you have been wanting.

What if you pull the plug on cable and there is one evening when you cannot find anything to watch. Here is some great news, there is always another option for television. It is called the off button. Turn off the TV, and visit with your family. Get to know your children or spouse. Have a family game night. If the weather is agreeable, go to the park and spend time together, without television, video games or iPods. - 23812

Conference Venues And Their Cost

By Michael Nielson

A formal gathering that is held for different purposes is called a conference. These can be related to studies, trade, news, or for any other purpose.

Choosing the venue for a conference is an essential decision to make. Many factors have to be kept under control, specially the cost factor. You must be well aware of how much you can spend on your conference. The other factors include the location and the capacity of the venue, so that it should accommodate the required number of people. Yet other factors, like food and decoration also hold importance in choosing the venue for your conference.

The UK is famous for holding numerous conferences every day. Conference business has grown a lot in the past a few years, offering you the services of managing your conference in your own way. Innumerable websites provide information about the venues that are available for you to select.

Such websites allow you to select your venue over the internet, therefore saving the hassle of going and finding appropriate places. One can easily view all the available venues in a selected city, and can inquire about their cost. Bookings can also be made via internet. This makes the whole process much easier and saves precious time.

Charges of conference venues depend upon many factors. The primary factor is the location. Usually, the charges are higher for venues in large metropolitan cities. The capacity of the venue is also an important factor to consider. If you wish to have accommodation facilities in the same venue, then probably, you will have to pay extra charges. The other factors that affect the charges are food, the type of food, and the overall arrangement and decoration. The equipment provided for the conference like multimedia, sound system etc, shall also be added in the final bill.

It is a common practice though, to negotiate the charges of the venue. This can be done either when you visit the office yourself. In case you have made an online booking, the website will make sure to offer competitive prices after discussing with the owner.

Lately, conference management has developed as a fully-fledged business in the UK. The association of British Professional Conference Organisers was founded in 1981. It grants membership on merit only, because it focuses on providing quality service to its clients across UK. The Meetings Industry Association is striving to achieve better conference standards in the UK and Ireland. Therefore, if one selects a conference provider who is a member of MIA, then he has better chances of getting quality services.

Selecting conference venues online have one problem. It is difficult for anyone to assess the actual condition of the venue virtually. The area and location are not completely clear until or unless one does not visit the place in person, which is a good idea by the way, before making the final payment. It is compulsory to confirm the reputation and credibility of the conference venue provider to make sure that he shall not compromise on quality by cutting down the costs. - 23812
