If you watch Whip It online, you can count on a very entertaining story that is very well acted and directed. The screenplay for Whip It comes from Shauna Cross' young adult novel Derby Girl.

Ellen Page stars in this inspiring and funny movie about a roller derby league, in which Drew Barrymore makes her directorial debut. At a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival Barrymore said she cast Page before she was cast in the 2007 sleeper hit Juno.

Watch Whip It online to see not only Barrymore (in a small supporting role) and Page, but a cast that also includes Kristin Wiig as Malice in Wonderland, and Juliette Lewis as rival Iron Maven. Marcia Gay Harden plays Bliss's pageant-loving mother, who is exasperated over Bliss' lack of enthusiasm for entering beauty pageants, and Daniel Stern, Bliss' father who is more understanding.

The movie was filmed in the summer of 2008, mostly on location in Michigan. Part of the movie was filmed in Texas, however. Watch Whip It online, and you'll probably be able to pick out which scenes were shot in Michigan and which were shot in Texas.

In the novel the movie was based on, Bliss is a reluctant beauty pageant contestant pushed by her mother to participate in pageants she despises. So without her mother's knowledge, she joins a roller derby league.

Co-producing with Barry Mendel, Barrymore's directorial debut is a joint production of her Flower Films, and Mandate Pictures. Barrymore didn't know how to skate at first, and so she gave herself a small, supporting role where she wouldn't have to do much skating.

It's worth it to watch Whip It online to see how Barrymore does on skates as a roller derby girl. As mentioned earlier, Whip It is Barrymore's debut as a director.

Barrymore's producing credits go back 15 years, to include movies like 50 First Dates, in which she starred with Adam Sandler, and Charlie's Angels, which starred Demi Moore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu. Juno: Juno is a smart young girl facing a huge dilemma. She is pregnant. Wanting the best for the child she strives to find a fitting set of parents for her baby. With the support of loving parents, Juno tries to deal with coming of age before her time.

Life With Father: Powerful adaptation of a long running Broadway play by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crusoe based on Clarence Night's tale of growing up in turn-of-the-century NYC with his admiring although offbeat dad. This is utterly admirable, and a handsome production also. The Screen-play is by Donald Ogden Stewart. Cast includes William Powell, Irene Dunne, Elizabeth Taylor, Edmund Gwenn, ZaSu Pitts, Jimmy Lydon, and Matlin Milner. (118 minutes, 1947)

Meet The Spartans: This is an outrageous spoof of the epic movie 300. Wearing leather underwear and capes, 13 Spartans will take on the Persian army. The Spartans will have to battle the like of: Ghost Rider, Rocky, Paris Hilton, and many more.

Rentadick: Out of the nether-land between The Goon Show and Monty Python comes this romp written by Python buddies John Cleese and Graham Chapman, spoofing the classic private-detective films. An experimental nerve gas that paralyzes people from the waist down has been stolen, and Rentadick, Inc. is employed to track down the perpetrators. Cast includes Jim Clark, James Booth, Julie Ege, Ronald Fraser, Donald Sinden, Michael Bentine, Richard Briers, and Spike Milligan. (94 minutes, 1972)

Sphere: An incredible discovery has been made at the bottom of the ocean. A huge sunken ship has been found. A team of scientist is sent to the depths to investigate. The ship turns out to be a spaceship, with an unusual sphere inside. This sphere seems to have an effect on the crew of the deep-sea station.

The Net: Angela Bennett is a computer geek. She receives a program, and is asked to de-bug it. Shortly after receiving the program, the man who sent it to her is killed. What's on the disc is of vital importance to someone. They know she has it, and she is now running for her life as she tries to figure out just who is after her, and why.
