Extensive Information on Frank Miller

By Brian Engle

Frank Miller is one of the greatest comic book minds to ever live. He was born in Maryland in 1957, although he was raised chiefly in Vermont. From a young age, he always knew he wanted to be an artist.

Miller got his first job working on the comic book version of the Twilight Zone series. He did well there, and moved up the ranks through DC Comics and eventually to Marvel, although at this point all the jobs were relatively small.

The real turning point for Miller was when he started developing Daredevil. People appreciated his fine artwork and interesting storylines, as he both wrote and penciled the comics. It was also where he started to develop the dark style uniquely associated with him.

Although Daredevil was what truly gave Miller his start, it was his work on Batman that made him exceptionally famous. In 1986, DC Comics released his miniseries Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and it was hailed as a redefinition of the Batman image.

Previously, many people associated Batman with the somewhat ridiculous image that was fostered by the portrayal of the character by Adam West. Frank Miller reintroduced Batman as an extremely dark character, and many people respected and prized this new take.

Sin City is a very popular work of Miller's, and the comic was first released in 1991. Since then, there have been many sequels and even a movie made of it. Miller is working on the subsequent Sin City movies, which have unfortunately been continuously pushed back.

In the new millennium, Miller returned to writing Batman related series. In fact, he is working on a new graphic novel in which Batman fights Al-Qaeda. It will be released in the near future.

Several movies have been adapted from Millers works. Sin City and 300 have been quite successful and were very well reviewed. Miller has also directed some films, including The Spirit, which bombed extraordinarily. - 23812
