Playstation 3 - RPG Oblivion

By Patrick Daniels

Oblivion is one of the few role playing games available for Playstation 3. The world in the game is literally the size of a small country. You can choose one, of ten, races as well as your fighter abilities. Your fighter can be strong and physical, or mystical and magical. All of this is chosen before you begin your main quest, and you have the ability to change it, at any time during the tutorial levels.

In Oblivion, you have access to a large open world, as well as the Oblivion world, giving you hours of area to explore. Enemies are also plentiful, as you face them in both the Oblivion and the main world. Certain areas are not accessible until the goal criteria is met, but until then there is much to explore.

While walking through the forest you will discover ruins that have underground tunnels running under the countryside. Once you have discovered a ruin, or castle, you will gain the ability to warp between all discovered areas.

There are many stats to level up, in Oblivion. The game also has a day to night cycle, to keep track of the time spent on a quest. Some character timelines allow them only to be available during day or night. Since most places are closed at night, it is a good time to get rest and sleep, to ensure your health and stamina does not decrease.

The graphics are very good; they are as good as anything else Ive seen on the system. There are many weapons and gear to collect and some things you can buy, but lots of things you can find along the way. The main quest is available at all times and there are many side quests. The menu helps you keep track of all the different quests you are currently working on and lets you know when you have completed a quest. The main story isn't as compelling as I would have hoped in such a big budget, high profile game, but it is serviceable and passable. Some people wont want to sink fifty hours into a game that has such a bare bones story, I found that part disappointing. - 23812
